Push Community Also Wins at Casino

The Versailles Casino donates funds for new baseball field at high school.
If you build it they will come. It has been 15 years since the high school baseball team has been able to enjoy any new facilities. The Versailles Casino is donating the funds for Push High School to completely renovate their 15 year-old baseball field, it was reported Tuesday.
"We are grateful to the Versailles Casino for continuing to breathe new life into our sports programs," Athletic Director Blaine said by telephone. "It means the world to our students and their families."
For the past three or four years, the Push High baseball field was deemed almost unplayable, causing the Rattlers to play mostly away games during the season. The school had plans to repair the field, but was waiting for the necessary funds to find their way to the athletic programs.
The welcomed donation comes none too soon. The dugouts were in a deep state of disrepair. The wood stands gave fans so many splinters that most spectators stood during the games. The grass area of the field had so many uneven spots and potholes that the outfielders couldn't really keep their eyes on a fly ball, as they had to see where they were running. The dirt was more gravel than sand and the scoreboard has not worked in years.
"It was time," said a Casino representative. "I have seen my kids and their friends struggle on that field and in those stands for years. I have even played on it a few times in alumni games. It was horrible. I think I fell twice in holes while chasing down fly balls."
The Casino representative went on to say, "Versailles is more than a casino. We hope to be a beacon of opportunity and progress for Push and its citizens. Versailles hopes that a new baseball field will give kids a great avenue for entertainment during Push's warm months. And, why not, while the kids are playing baseball, their parents can come on into the casino and try their luck."
The principal of the high school agrees. "The kids of this town were given a basketball court a few years ago and it has had an invaluable effect on our school and the community. With the addition of a new baseball field, Push Nevada's high school sports should hold a respectable position against our rival towns."
There was no word on when construction would begin.
