Join our Push community! Civic groups are the connective tissue of our little desert town, and form the core of Mayor Denny Kottsworth's "Get Out and Push" Good Neighbor campaign.
Nearly everyone in town joins The Armadillo Lodge, founded in 1903. Known for their public service, the Armadillos generously sponsor the 4th of July Livestock Parade and Fireworks Extravaganza. During the fall, they also host the year's biggest charity fundraiser: the Pioneer Carnival. The centerpiece of this three-day festival is the Prospector Derby, a tournament for young and old that includes Settler Skill contests such as the Dune Crawl, the Tumbleweed Toss and the Big Dig.
In 1909, when the Armadillo Lodge was still all-male, their wives established the Ladies Auxiliary of Armadillos. The Lodge went co-ed in 1989, but the Ladies Auxiliary kept its independent status. Today the Ladies Auxiliary of Push carries the torch for a spirit that reminds us all of the pioneer women who first settled Push, as shown by its annual Sadie Hawkins Dance.
The Push Historical Society also enjoys a thriving membership among Push locals. Founded in 1958, the Society proudly exhibits Old Push artifacts in its rotunda. At the Pioneer Carnival, Society members also perform a six-hour historical re-enactment of the founding of Push, an event that begins with a wonderful mock gunfight down Ocean Avenue in our downtown business district. Beyond these organizations, Push locals regularly participate in smaller civic groups that are as varied as the Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Push High School Fighting Roadrunners Booster Club and the Pin Drop Bowling League at the Push Pins Bowl. In short, there is always a way for you, your family or your business to participate in our thriving Push community. So move to Push and join our small town team!
