Departments | Ecology

The fundamental principles of ecology govern our lives wherever we live.

The Ecology department was created in January 1992. It has its headquarters in the Paris office.

This department is used whenever large-scale projects might have an impact on the local environment or wildlife populations, and when we are asked to create new ecosystems.

Our most recent project, the town of Moreland, is one such large-scale undertaking. The land in this hilly enclave remained a wilderness up until last spring, despite the surrounding areas' population explosion. In addition, certain soil strata, formed when the land first buckled into the gently rolling hills, rendered much of the land uninhabitable for humans or for any sort of harvestable vegetation. Through a complex series of agri-piping and intensive soil treatments, the western end of Moreland was reborn into several acres of prime orchard land.

The most fulfilling challenge was Moreland lake, a completely man-made bowl of blue perfect for sailing and swimming and even fishing, as the Ph and oxygen levels are constantly being monitored, and TerraShape opened the lake by populating it with a host of fresh water fish, plant life, and frogs. There's not a day goes by at Moreland when most of its residents don't stop and take a long, appreciative look at the wonder of human technology and know-how. What can't be seen, but is felt, is what's so amazing about this town. The land has been completely modified, and yet the environment is embracing the change.

Ecology's biggest challenge to date has been the El Paso Nature Reserve.
