While grrl-e-grrl is new to the web, it has been
around somewhat irregularly for 5 years. Brooke started publishing
her thoughts (and recruiting friends to do the same) back in college and
has continued to do so now that she's in the 'real' world. Friends
finally talked her into going online over the holidays when they gave her
the domain name for annual gift giving day.
The
online edition will not, Brooke vows, lose the focus established early
on. Celebrate grrls, their contribution to society, their thoughts
and fears, their hopes and dreams. Big or small, it doesn't
matter. As long as we contribute, think, and dream, we will make
the world a better place. It is especially cool when that
contribution, thought, or dream is a bit wild...especially for a
grrl. With all the added space that an internet site provides, we
are testing the waters with articles on how to help you contribute
more. For example, saving you time and money so that you can spend
both doing things that make you and others happy. We will also
include boys from time to time. Contrary to popular opinion, we
write on grrls because we are grrls and we like being grrls, not because
we hate boys. In fact, there are times that we are quite fond of
them.
Brooke, a peace-loving hippie freak with a
degree in sociology, dreams of going back to school eventually completing
her Ph.D. and spending the rest of her days researching, teaching, and
writing for independent zines (especially her own). That and making
the world a happier place.
As for the others... there are many that have
contributed over the years. Hopefully a biography section will be
included soon showcasing the writers that contribute most often.
This will allow you, the reader, to understand where we are coming from
and why we think the way we do. Many high school friends, college
friends, and internet friends have contributed their thoughts over the
past 5 years. Now that we are online, we hope to have you contribute
as well. If you have thought about writing, check out the submission
page and drop us a line...you just may get your chance.
Finally, and we hate doing this, but we're going to
beg for money. The site isn't free and we spend quite a few hours
researching, writing, and working on the site. If you'd like to
donate, please do so. We'd like you to get something for your money,
so we set up a store with cafe press.
While we'd love to see you sporting a t shirt, or drinking out of our
ever-useful mugs, you can also make a straight-up donation through PayPal.
(By the way, the recipient's email is brooke@grrl-e-grrl.com!)
Rest assured, all donations will go into making this experience more
enjoyable for our readers.
