guysguise.com:
A Pie in the Face
As a writer for an online zine, I’m always scouring the virtual word for up and coming zines. This month, I found a new little gem for the guys out
there, www.guysguise. com. Written ‘for the more intellectual male chauvinist pigs’, this zine definitely knows its audience…chauvinist pigs .
Most of the zine’s focus lies in it’s reviews, which are humorous takes on television, movies, music, and games. Ah, the rich life of the chauvinist pig: the simple joy of watching Cameron Diaz shake her ass, the pent up anger at the survivor guys for voting off the ‘hotties’, and the base thrill of shooting aliens and Germans. Forgotten are the wonderful films, intellectual shows, and the mind building games. Though, again, we must look at the audience.
A must for the ‘chauvinist pigs’ out there is the zine’s monthly serving of pie. How refreshing it is in this day and age to have barely dressed women referred to as pie. I mean really, can’t they see us for our achievements, our abilities, our minds? I suppose not, it is a zine for ‘chauvinist pigs’ after all. A hint to the less intellectual pigs out there…there is more to life than pie! Think about all the cookies,
cakes, candies, and custards that you are leaving out by the focus on pie. The world of desserts is diverse, take the chance and try a taste of something new.
All the negatives aside, we found this zine to have a wonderful foundation filled with great contributing writers. Zines such as guysguise certainly help to round out the world of independent zines. We are thrilled that they have taken the plunge and built their little home on the world wide web. While we are diametrically opposed in our focus, we find the humor and insight to be a delight. Good luck to James Ingrahausen and guysguise. We hope that you’ll grow to be a premier place ‘for the more intellectual male chauvinist pigs’.
