Lip
Goo
You’ve finally gotten tired of shelling out a buck and a half for a tube of lip goo, but the
winter winds turned your lips from kissable soft to sandpaper rough?
Worry no more! This grrl has a long and glorious history of brewing up interesting potions in her kitchen, and if you follow along you’ll be cheerfully making a mess in no time!
For “lip goo” as I call it, the shopping list is short and you can probably find all of it at your local craft store or natural food shop.
Stuff you Need
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
1/2 oz beeswax
flavored oil (optional)
measuring cups, a saucepan or pot,
small jars or tins to store your lip goo
How to Make a Mess
Pour all of the almond oil into a measuring cup.
Place the measuring cup into a saucepan of warm water and heat until it is hot to the touch, but not burning hot! Be careful here, the water in the saucepan should help, but hot oil isn’t a good thing to play with.
Add half of the beeswax to the warm oil, and wait for the wax to melt completely. Make sure the water level in the saucepan doesn’t get too low...remember the hot oil!
Using an old spoon or a chopstick, stir the wax and oil potion to make sure it is well blended.
Flavor the balm by adding five drops of flavored oil and stir well.
Remove from heat
Time to Test the Goo
Now that everything has been mixed together, put a drop or two of the warm goo on a plate and put it in the fridge. When it has cooled, try it out. If the goo is too waxy, warm the whole thing back up and add a little more oil. If it is a little too soft, add a bit more beeswax.
Once the goo has the consistency you want, pour or spoon it into the storage jars/tins/random storage containers and you’re good to go!
Random Thought on
Goo
I usually don’t flavor my goo, but when I make “goo for gifts” I try to match the goo to my friends’ own preferences. For winter goo I break open a few vitamin E pills and add that to the goo for extra moisturizing and lip protection. Goo-d luck grrls, and may kissable lips be yours!
